Crossplay Two-Letter Words

96 two-letter words from the public-domain ENABLE list, with Crossplay points.

High-scoring two-letter words

These 6 words are worth 9 points or more before bonuses: JO (11), XU (10), AX (9), EX (9), OX (9), XI (9). Placed so that a high-value letter lands on a triple letter square and forms two words at once, a two-letter play can outscore a long word. The Crossplay board solver finds these parallel plays for you, and the Crossplay words with Q, Z, J and X page lists the three- and four-letter words for those tiles.

How to use two-letter words in Crossplay

Score in two directions. Put the X on a triple letter square so it reads AX down and XI across. The X counts 24 points in each word: AX scores 25, XI scores 25, and the move totals 50 points from two tiles. A J does the same job in JO.

Play alongside a word. Laying a short word parallel to one already on the board forms a two-letter word under each tile. Every one of those little words scores, so a three-tile play can count four words at once. This is where knowing the list pays off.

Clear a bad tray. Too many vowels? AA, AE, AI, OE use only vowels. Too many consonants? HM, MM, SH have no vowel at all. A small play that fixes your tray often beats a swap, which scores nothing.

Always confirm a word in the game before you rely on it. Our list is ENABLE, and Crossplay uses its own dictionary.

Where this list comes from

These 96 entries are all the two-letter words in the public-domain ENABLE word list, compiled by Alan Beale and M. Leo Cooper. The solver, word finder and checker use the same list. The official game may accept additional words or reject some entries here. You can search our dictionary with the Crossplay word checker.
