How to review a Crossplay game
- Pick a turn worth reviewing. Start with turns where you scored little, swapped, or had a blank or a high tile (J, Q, X, Z) and were not sure where to put it.
- Rebuild the board as it was before your move. Tap a square and type. Tap the same square again to switch between across and down. Mark any blank tiles already on the board so they score zero.
- Enter the tiles you had and select Find best moves. Compare your play with the top of the list, then tap a move to see it on the board.
- Step forward. Press Play this move to add a play to the board, then enter the next position to keep reviewing.
What to look for in the results
- Parallel plays. A short word laid alongside another word scores every two-letter word it forms. These often beat a longer word. The Crossplay two-letter words make them possible.
- High tiles on letter bonuses. A 10-point J, Q or Z on a triple letter square that also forms two words counts twice.
- Sweeps you did not see. Using all seven tiles adds 40 points. If a sweep shows up near the top, note which letters made it possible.
- Plays that open the edges. Crossplay's triple word squares sit near the corners, so a big play that gives your opponent a lane to one can cost more than it earns.
Crossplay bot: Cross Bot and the computer opponent
Crossplay has two kinds of bot. You can play against the computer at easy, medium or hard. Cross Bot is the built-in coach: every player gets tips after each game, and NYT Games subscribers get its full postgame review of games against other people (TheWordFinder: Crossplay vs Scrabble (September 24, 2026)).
This analyzer is not part of the app. It ranks every legal move for any position you enter, so you can look closely at the turns that mattered.
A fair way to use a solver
Crossplay is a two-player game against a real person, so this tool is meant for after the game, to learn, not during it. NYT Games subscribers also get a postgame review from Cross Bot, the built-in coach (TheWordFinder: Crossplay vs Scrabble (September 24, 2026)); this page is a free way to look at any position in more depth.
Scores use Crossplay letter values, the Crossplay bonus-square layout, no bonus on the center square and the 40-point sweep. For the rules behind them, read how to play Crossplay.
About the word list. This site uses the public-domain ENABLE word list, compiled by Alan Beale and M. Leo Cooper. We keep words with 2–15 letters and apply our existing offensive-word filter. All 96 two-letter entries also come from ENABLE. Our list may accept words that Crossplay rejects or omit words that the game accepts. The game itself always has the final say.
